  • The night someone brought binoculars

I graduated from Parkview HS in 1980. I and many of my friends visited Woodson Lateral to see the lights many times. Often times we were disappointed or misled by distant tailights miles away, but one particular night, someone thought to bring binoculars and my world was changed. That night the light was the closest, brightest and displayed itself moreso than any other visit I had experienced. We were a group of at least 5 young men and a few young women. I know the boys saw pretty much the same thing Im' about to detail as they used the binoculars one after another in sequence from left to right as we lay prostrate , sat or kneeled in a line across the road. The light that night was showing up as it's more usual form of a ball of pearly white light. It appeared in the center of the road, maybe 3 ft from the surface. I would estimate the ball was 60-75 yrds away. Close enough!! I was third to use the binoculars at the time it bothered to show itself for the longest period that evening, almost as if it were putting on a show that night, for the largest crowd I had ever brought out there. To the naked eye, the ball appeared steady, singular and dimensionless. but then I saw it clearly and sharply via binoculars...... I was stunned to see that the light was actually a 3d object, geometrically perfect. A globe in fact, that was rotating at a steady speed from left to right upon an axis perpendicular to the roads surface. The globe was to my surprise actually two colors, not one. It was pearly white & crimson red, the globe /colors divided as though the globe had an equator line that was 45 approx. degrees to the surface, yes 45 degress and it appeared balanced and symmetrical as it rotated and revealed it's angled hemispheres. I was stunned by the revelation of the two colors and took the binocs down to compared to what I had been seeing with the naked eye. It appeared to be only white. I brought the binocs to my eyes again and it had changed!! It now appeared as two isosceles triangles, in the red color mirror images of each other, a pair, pointing at the road. I was stunned again, took down the binoculars and was fascinated to see only a single white light again. Binocs back up and the show continued! the two triangles were gone and I now saw 8 small perfect balls of red light about the size of racquet balls, evenly spaced alone a diagonal line low on the left, highest on the right. then the fellow beside me took the binocs away, and I could see only a flat whiteish light again with my naked eye.
